So what is the future of Artificial Intelligence, and how does it affect us?
Lets start by deciding what computers are; a series of zeroes and ones. Programmable machines that man has developed to do the things that they cannot. Store multitudes of data; communicate across the world, solving problems. Doing all of that in a fraction of a second. Computers ever since their creation in the 1940’s to combat the enigma machine have changed dramatically, but will they ever have the ability to think like we do? Will they ever be truly intelligent?
The processes in which man and machine work are not so different at all, especially if you look at the theory of determinism. The idea that everything is determined and each factor is linked to one another in a sequence of events that leads to a predicted final outcome. So could a supercomputer not do that? Hang on, it already is and has been for years. Look at the stock exchange, computers buying stocks from one another analyzing data about sales or even better the weather. Predicting weather channels weeks in advance based on data surrounding the environment.
"We're not so different you and I"
So that leads me to ask could it ever predict more? Of course. But it would have to have access to data we might not want it to. And for it all to work in the first place an algorithm generated by humans would have to be made. So who’s the smarter one? The person that creates the algorithm so the computers can predict the future but could never predict it themselves as they would never have the capacity to comprehend all the data, or a supercomputer that could predict the future of events but rely on humans in order to do so?
The truth is, we both rely on one another. We may well soon live in a future where intelligent computers take a huge role in our lives, but they will never overtake us, as we could never overtake them.
So the issue of the smart watch has come up again. Will we ever get used to wearing technology? Does it still seem like a thing of the future even though its here now?
