Artificial Intelligence...whats the affect?

So what is the future of Artificial Intelligence, and how does it affect us?

Lets start by deciding what computers are; a series of zeroes and ones. Programmable machines that man has developed to do the things that they cannot. Store multitudes of data; communicate across the world, solving problems. Doing all of that in a fraction of a second. Computers ever since their creation in the 1940’s to combat the enigma machine have changed dramatically, but will they ever have the ability to think like we do? Will they ever be truly intelligent?
Computers are made up from a series of inputs and outputs, data comes in, its analyzed and it goes out again. When computers become able to analyze these factors of inputs and put them together to form an output, is that what we class as thinking? Because well isn’t that what we do? We are constantly analyzing factors, using our history of experience and taking into account the environment that surrounds us to make decisions. Are these not all just a series of inputs and outputs?

It reminds me of the movie quote “were not so different you and I”. The only main difference is we are a biological substance and they are mechanical. But the ways in which we all work are related to programmed machines.

The processes in which man and machine work are not so different at all, especially if you look at the theory of determinism.  The idea that everything is determined and each factor is linked to one another in a sequence of events that leads to a predicted final outcome.  So could a supercomputer not do that? Hang on, it already is and has been for years. Look at the stock exchange, computers buying stocks from one another analyzing data about sales or even better the weather. Predicting weather channels weeks in advance based on data surrounding the environment.
"We're not so different you and I"
So that leads me to ask could it ever predict more? Of course. But it would have to have access to data we might not want it to. And for it all to work in the first place an algorithm generated by humans would have to be made. So who’s the smarter one? The person that creates the algorithm so the computers can predict the future but could never predict it themselves as they would never have the capacity to comprehend all the data, or a supercomputer that could predict the future of events but rely on humans in order to do so?

The truth is, we both rely on one another. We may well soon live in a future where intelligent computers take a huge role in our lives, but they will never overtake us, as we could never overtake them.
